Interactive Notebook

The Interactive Notebook is an engaging and interactive way for students to learn and retain Social Studies material. The notebook will become a portfolio of the students work and understanding. With teacher-directed notes, students can create and re-organize the information in new graphic ways to illustrate the student has mastered the material. The notebook will stay in class at all times. Materials Needed:

One 100 page composition notebook (NO spirals)
Glue Sticks
Scissors
Colored pencils, crayons, makers

Organization:

Left-side activities will be assigned for the first semester. During the second semester, after students have become accustomed to the activities, they may choose their own to complete.

Components : (All glued in the notebook-first 8 pages)
Cover Page- Students create a notebook cover page with name, class, and illustrations
Table of Contents-Student keep a running list of contents with page numbers, activity names, and graded scores
Rubric-A guide for students to see what is expected for the notebook each week.
About the Author-Students create an Acrostic Poem of their name which will describe their interests, hobbies, likes and dislikes.
About My Partner-Students will have a partner where they will create a venn diagram comparing and contrasting each other.
Unit Title Pages-Students must create a title page for each unit. At the end of the unit, students will illustrate this page to demonstrate their knowledge concepts from that unit.

Grading:
Notebooks will be graded each week according to the rubric attached in the notebook
Selected assignments from the left-side of the notebook will also be taken for individual grades.

Absent:
If a student is absent, he or she may find the pages in the classroom for that week. All pages can also be found here.
Students should also meet with their partners to see how to format the notebook.
